Lancaster County Career and Technology Center offers a satellite dental assisting program at Thorndale Dental Associates. The assisting program is offered to adult students who are interested in becoming a dental assistant or beginning a career in dentistry as a lab tech or an administrative assistant. The 26 week program will graduate assistants who have learned dental terminology, head and neck anatomy and physiology, dental anatomy, dental materials, chairside assisting, radiology and business administration. It is our objective to graduate dental assistants that would be able to comfortably sit chairside (utilizing a four handed approach), have the ability to take impressions, fabricate temporaries, mix cements, and be certified to take x-rays.
Our office is proud to announce that we now offer an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) program which is also affiliated with the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center. This 15 week program will encompass both didactic and laboratory training. Following the program, students will complete 15 additional weeks in an externship in either the dental office where they are currently employed or a site procured by the students and approved by the program. As a requirement of the entrance process, students will be scheduled to take a pre-entrance exam. The exam is designed to evaluate basic knowledge of dental anatomy, dental materials, and general four handed chairside assisting.
Tuition assistance is available. Please call Stephanie Sands at 610-384-2541 or email Dental Practice for more information. Classes begin in September, with an anticipated graduation in April.
